Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What are "text-based PDFs" and "scanned PDFs"?
Text-based PDFs are generated by word processing software (like Word, Google Docs) or contain a selectable text layer. You can select text with your mouse in these PDFs.
Scanned PDFs are created by scanning physical documents with a scanner or camera. They are essentially image files. Text in these PDFs cannot be directly edited and requires OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology.
Q2: How can I tell if my PDF is editable?
The simplest way: try selecting text with your mouse in a PDF reader. If you can select it, it's a text-based PDF. If you can't (text looks like an image), it's a scanned PDF.
When using our editor, if you upload a scanned PDF, the system will automatically detect it and show a message that the PDF cannot be edited.
Q3: Will the PDF format change after editing?
The editor preserves the page structure where possible, but uncommon fonts may fall back and longer replacement text can clip, wrap, or overlap. Always review the exported PDF.
Q4: Can I edit password-protected PDFs?
We currently do not support editing password-protected PDFs. If your PDF is password-protected, please use another tool to remove the password before uploading.
Q5: Can others see my uploaded files?
Files are processed automatically in volatile memory for the active workflow, removed after export, or expire after at most about ten minutes. Use an approved local workflow for restricted documents.
Q6: Why the 10MB and 50-page limits?
These limits ensure optimal processing speed and user experience. The vast majority of common PDF files fall within these limits. If you need to process larger files, we recommend splitting them into smaller parts first.
Advanced Tips
Batch Edit Similar Content
If you need to change the same text in multiple places (e.g., company name), note down the text to replace first, then edit each occurrence in order for consistency.
Review Your Edits
After downloading, open the file in a PDF reader to verify all changes are correct before using or sharing.
Keep Original Files
When editing important documents, keep a backup of the original PDF in case you need to revert or re-edit.
Test with Small Files
If this is your first time using an online PDF editor, try a small, non-important file first to familiarize yourself with the workflow.
