Upload, edit, export
- Send X-API-Key with every request. POST https://www.editpdftextonline.com/api/v1/pdf/upload with multipart/form-data and a file field. Keep the returned file_id and text block IDs.
- POST https://www.editpdftextonline.com/api/v1/pdf/generate with JSON {file_id, edits:[{page_num, block_id, new_text}]}. Only edit blocks returned by the upload. The response is a PDF file.
- Review the exported PDF page by page. A successful HTTP response does not prove the typography or document meaning is correct.
Hard limits and retry rules
Each account: 30 requests/minute shared across both services, and 20 PDF upload/export operations per UTC day. An upload and an export count separately. Global site limits: 120 requests/minute across both services and 100 PDF operations per UTC day including ordinary browser uploads and exports. Browser page previews have a separate global cap of 60/minute and 1,000/UTC day. Failed authenticated requests also count. Quotas survive key rotation and gateway restarts. A 429 response includes Retry-After: wait until then. Do not create multiple accounts or use browser endpoints to evade limits.
File and privacy limitations
Text-based PDF only, up to 10 MB and 50 pages. Scanned OCR, encrypted files, interactive forms, active content, and paragraph reflow are unsupported. Never assume fonts or signatures are preserved. The PDF is sent to a server and held in volatile memory; it expires after about 10 minutes or export. A backend restart or instance change can invalidate the session earlier. Preserve the original. Only the uploading account can use its file_id. Do not upload regulated or sensitive files without an approved workflow.
Use GET https://www.editpdftextonline.com/api/agent/usage to check usage. Keys expire after 90 days; a new key revokes the old one. 401: invalid key; 410: expired file; 503: temporary service failure. OpenAPI: API specification
