Troubleshooting
Why can’t I edit text in this PDF?
“I can see the words” does not necessarily mean a PDF contains replaceable text. Work through the symptom before repeatedly uploading the same file.
The page is a scan or flattened image
If you cannot select individual words and the page becomes pixelated when zoomed, it is likely an image-only scan. This editor does not perform OCR and will reject a document without enough extractable text.
Use OCR software you trust, choose the correct document language, and proofread the recognized result. A searchable scan may still show the old word inside the image, so changing its hidden OCR layer is not the same as visually editing the page.
Text was converted to outlines
Design and print workflows sometimes turn letters into vector paths so the appearance no longer depends on a font. Outlined words remain sharp at high zoom and may look like ordinary text, but search and copy do not work because there are no character objects.
The reliable fix is to edit the original design file and export a new PDF. Reconstructing outlined text requires graphic editing and access to a matching font; it is outside a text-block replacement workflow.
The PDF is encrypted, signed, a form, or contains active content
A password or permission setting can prevent extraction and editing. Digital signatures can become invalid after any byte-level change. Interactive form fields are a different PDF object type from page text. Attachments, JavaScript, launch actions, and certain multimedia annotations also add security risk.
This service intentionally rejects encryption, interactive forms, embedded files, JavaScript, and selected active content. Use the document owner’s authorized source or an approved specialist tool. Do not remove access controls from a file unless you have permission.
Selection works, but extracted text is wrong
A PDF maps internal character codes to visible glyphs. When that mapping is missing or malformed, the page can look correct while copied text becomes symbols or nonsense. Text can also be split letter by letter, placed in an unexpected reading order, or represented with custom encodings.
Try copying one sentence to a plain-text editor. If it is already wrong locally, an online block editor cannot reliably infer the intended characters. Return to the source or use a workflow that combines OCR with careful visual comparison.
Only one block or page is missing
Documents assembled from several sources can contain normal text, scans, and outlines in the same file. Decorative headings may be shapes while body text remains editable. Very complex pages can also contain more text fragments than the service safely processes.
Check another paragraph and page. Keep edits limited to blocks the preview clearly identifies. If a critical line is absent, do not approximate its location or assume the download will repair it.
The file or session failed before editing
The current service accepts PDFs up to 10 MB and 50 pages. Invalid MIME type, malformed PDF structure, unsupported active content, processing timeout, or rate limiting can stop the upload. A successfully uploaded file remains in memory only for the active workflow and expires after at most about ten minutes.
Start again with the untouched original, confirm its size and page count, and avoid repeatedly submitting the same failing file. If an edited session expires, upload the original again and repeat only the verified changes. Never use a previously failed partial download as the new master.
- Keep the original unchanged.
- Record the exact error and when it occurred.
- Test with a small, non-sensitive text-based PDF to separate service availability from file compatibility.
- Use the source application when the edit affects layout or document structure.
